Ayusa International e.V. is a non-profit exchange organization dedicated to cultural exchange and connecting people. It was founded in 1990 in Stuttgart and is now based in Berlin, Germany. Ayusa International offers a variety of programs (au pair, high school exchange, language tutoring) to students and young adults from all over the world that want to explore Germany.

All of our Ayusa employees have worked or lived abroad themselves. We are very happy about our high customer satisfaction and excellent referral rates from participants and host families. Our Berlin office staff is supported by a national network of about 70 representatives who live all over Germany..

Reasons for Ayusa International e.V.

  • We are experienced!

Many years of experiences in working with au pairs, language tutors, exchange students and host families make us a reliable and trustworthy organization

  • We have the best service!

Aside from our Berlin office staff, you will also have a local Ayusa coordinator who will be in touch with you and your host family after your arrival to Germany.

  • We have been where you are now!

All of our employees have worked abroad, interned abroad, studied abroad, been in an Au pair program or have done a high school exchange. We can advise you individually, according to your specific situation. We want you to succeed and enjoy living abroad!

  • We are international!

As part of an international exchange organization we are excited to motivate you to learn about a new country.

We are by your side - before and during your program!

While before the program your main contact will be in the Berlin office, you will receive the contact information of your local Ayusa coordinator with your host family information. We at Ayusa believe it is important that you and your host family have one local contact who knows both you and the family. The coordinator visits each family prior to your stay with them. They will also meet with you and the family right after your arrival to speak with you about the program. The coordinator lives within an hour distance of you to come in case you or the host family have any problems or need support.

The Ayusa local coordinators generally have been au pairs or exchange students themselves and thus understand what it means to live with a host family and be surrounded by a foreign langauge and culture. Of course, you also get the phone number and e-mail of the Berlin office and a 24-hour phone number in case of an emergency situation.

We take the support of our participants seriously and want to do our best that you and your host family have a successful time in Germany!

You still have questions? We have answers:

  • Do I need to speak German to be able to become an exchange student? Read more

Yes, you need basic german language skills (minimum A2 skills) in order to come to Germany. The more german you learn before your arrival, the easier it will be for you to understand your host family, teachers and friends.

  • Do I need to have a driving license in order to become an au pair? Read more

Not necessarily. It really depends on your host family and their situation. Host families that live right in the city often don’t need their au pairs to drive due to an excellent public infrastructure being in place (i.e. bus or underground train services). Families that live in the outskirts of cities or in smaller towns might require the au pair to drive their children to school, kindergarten, appointments or play dates. It’s recommendable to speak with the family about it during the interview to see whether driving skills are required or not. You can still apply to become an au pair in Germany even if you do not have a driving license or don’t feel comfortable driving in a foreign country. It just may take a little longer to find a host family.
