What are German au pair host families like?

Au pair with children

Host families are usually very interested in getting to know their au pair well and in sharing their culture with them. They often invite you to join them for family activities at the weekend. As an au pair, you will create a special bond with the family that will last beyond your stay. The majority of our participating families are dual-parent families with two to four children who are between 1 and 10 years of age. While some families live in spacious apartments the majority live in a house.

Quite often, both parents work full-time and therefore want to have a reliable person who will take care of their children. Many families also have the desire to expose their children to another culture and language; therefore, they invite an international au pair to live with their family. Because of Ayusa being the only agency in Germany focused on native English au pairs, families with a special interest or own background with the English language come to us. Some of the host families have lived abroad and know what it is like to leave your home country and explore a new culture and language.

Where do the host families live?

Host family regions

Ayusa International has many host families and currently offers placements in nine exciting German cities and their surroundings. Our host families live in and around: Hamburg, Berlin, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Hannover, Bielefeld, Ulm, Stuttgart and Munich.

While we try to accommodate any regional preferences you might have, we always encourage our au pairs to be open-minded about the location because the most important factor is that you get along with your host family as best as possible! During your stay as an au pair you will have plenty of opportunities to travel and explore Germany and the neighboring countries.

Are you all set?
