Please describe your host family:
My host family was amazing they could have not provided a better experience than they did. They were some of the most thoughtful and caring people that I have ever met in my life. They made it a priority to take my happiness and well-being in consideration. They also wanted to give me a good time which is what they achieved.

Describe a typical day in your life as an exchange student:
While I was in Germany, I would wake up eat breakfast as a family which is not normal in my American Household. Go to school. Leave school, Get lunch with my other foreign exchange friends and sometimes some of my other friends. Then I would walk to the Volkshochschule for my German class. I took ballet classes, Music lessons and had orchestra throughout the week.

What do you like best about being an exchange student? Highlights?
I liked meeting all of the people that I met. I did not have many friends, but the ones that I did have I can still consider some of my best friends because we got along with each other so well. They are some of the nicest people I know today.

Were there any challenges?
The language barrier was one of the hardest parts, amongst with making friends. I had trouble adapting to the “German Charm” that many people had. Many people were just unfriendly and acted like I was an idiot because I couldn't speak fluent German, or because I was American.

Is there any advice you would give to future exchange students?
Meet as many people as you can be, Don’t live in a bubble and surround yourself with things from your home country. Don’t whine about being home sick that just makes things work. If your host family speaks a lot of your native language, tell them politely to stop because it hinders your progress in learning the language. Also be caring and gracious to your host family, no matter how they feel about you.

Why did you decide to become an exchange student in Germany?
Because of heavy family heritage, also I fell in love with the culture when I entered the German class at my school.
